Field Service / Application Engineer
Quest Controls, Inc. is a designer and manufacturer of monitoring and control solutions for telecommunications, broadband, and commercial buildings. We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated Field Service Application Engineer to join our team.
This position requires a strong understanding of environmental monitoring, building management systems (BMS), and control technologies typically used in critical environments such as telecommunication facilities, utility substations, or data centers. The ideal candidate has a combination of hands-on field service experience and solid technical knowledge related to facility monitoring and controls.
*Position is on-site at our corporate headquarters in Palmetto, Florida.
Key Responsibility
- Create detailed specifications and system design for building monitoring and control systems based on project requirements.
- Configure and program building monitoring and control systems.
- Manage, lead, inspect, and perform installation projects, including commissioning.
- Troubleshoot monitoring and control configurations (new & legacy systems), mechanical, electrical and other controlled equipment.
- Provide on-call technical service/support for installations, contractors, sales staff, and customers (in person and over the phone).
- Maintain installation documentation & review documents for quality control.
- Write and edit technical papers and manuals.
- Provide classroom style or hands-on training to end users and staff.
- Performing other duties as assigned by Service Manager &/or Project Manager.
- Participate in company training and self-study to improve and maintain technical proficiency in program platforms.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of Quest product capabilities and features.
- Identify and apply the appropriate Quest hardware to address a customer’s specific monitoring and control application.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- Technical degree, Military training in computers or electronics, other equivalent training.
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience
- Experience working with Johnson Controls, Siemens, Tridium/Niagara, Schneider Electric, or similar systems is a plus.
- Working knowledge of HVAC controls is beneficial for this role.

- Generate and/or work from electrical schematics.
- Understand Energy Management Systems, Building Management Systems, and/or controls.

- Understanding of electrical codes, requirements, and efficient installation methods and practices.

Quest Systems Project Managers are responsible for the successful execution of projects involving the design, installation, integration, and commissioning of BMS/EMS/HVAC Control turnkey solutions. System Integration Project Managers are also responsible for the preparation of accurate and competitive quotations for turnkey projects.

Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze requests for quotation (RFQs), technical specifications, and drawings to develop cost estimates and formal proposals.
- Collaborate with internal departments (sales, engineering, purchasing, and production) to gather required information and inputs.
- Prepare and present quotations, ensuring all details are accurate, complete, and aligned with company pricing strategy.
- Manage all phases of projects from initiation through completion, including planning, design review, procurement, installation, programming, and commissioning.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, risk assessments, and resource planning.
- Coordinate with internal teams (engineering, field technicians, programmers), subcontractors, and clients.
- Maintain clear communication with clients regarding project status, changes, and deliverables.
- Oversee submittal processes, change orders, RFIs, and project documentation.

Qualifications:

- Prefer a candidate with 3-5 years of experience in project management, with at least 3 years in technical environment (BMS/EMS, HVAC Controls, or other relevant experience).
- Familiarity with Johnson Controls, Siemens, Tridium/Niagara, Schneider Electric, or similar systems is a plus.
- Experience creating accurate and competitive quotes based on specifications, drawings, and market rates.

- Ability to break down service components and calculate material, labor, and other associated costs.

- Familiarity with critical infrastructure operations (telecom sites, substations, data centers, etc.) is highly desirable.

Qualified candidates will work with project managers, applications, hardware & software engineers on designing, specifying, programming and integrating new and existing building management systems. Candidate will also work with technical support & monitoring personnel on ongoing troubleshooting and support. Typically work will occur during normal business hours, however based on a project-to-project basis some after-hours work may be required. Candidates should anticipate that a portion of the time will require travel to customer locations throughout North America.
